Quick update - erg and chest still struggling

So my erg and chest are still struggling - videos will demonstrate the noise when the chain jumps but with the help of concept2 UK I think a solution is on the way - wanted to try some 150m reps but as I wasn't sure that the erg wasn't about to snap I just did three reps and got videos for the tech guys.

erg issues - 60r20 70% HRR am 20by1 r20 pm

So got up very early this morning and managed to have enough time to get a 60 minute piece in before getting to my desk at 8am - r20 and 70% HRR - found my USB OTG for my android phone so used my old sony z1 to track the piece - unfortunately the battery went on that about 10 minutes before the end ffs - still had the PM and it's memory :o) nothing spectacular but trying to get back into some form of training with all the interruptions of late - plus still suffering from the chest infection...

So at lunch time I decided to thump it a bit - no warm up - 20 by 1 min on 1 min off all static start flywheel - aimed at 1:40 but then went with it - two issues I had here - lungs clearing crap which caused a few hiccups and also my erg has a bit of a "jump" going on at the moment - thought it was the clutch and c2 replaced my flywheel - but it's still happening and more than a little unnerving to be honest as the chain lurches back and more than once in a stroke sometimes which through the rhythm and stopped any thoughts of a "fast last" - still sweat produced and work done.

Chest infection - so a long slow one 60r20 70% HRR

From the touch of flu I was suffering from mildly last week this week it's been more of a cold and headed into the chest - so although I wanted to have a pop at something with a higher rate/pace I also like having my lungs stay in my chest - so with getting into work early and leaving a little late I knew I could push the lunch break a little and so 60r20 70% HRR was on - put on a film to help pass the time and after a few early coughs just settled into it and let it flow like water ;o)

30r20 70% HRR

simple row this morning - what isn't so simple is getting enough time to get it done with all that married life and dog owner entails lol still have a touch of sickness in me evident by the drain on pace as I maintained the HR

Long term training for long term benefits 40r20 70% HRR

Had two photos pop up on my Facebook feed on the "this day last year/s" thing - one from 21st March 2014 and one 21 March 2013 - 2014 showed a 70% HRR 30r20 done at a average of 1:47.4 - the other was 90% HRR 30r20 done at a average of 1:47.3 - if you ever needed an example of the long term gains from long term work there it was - so back to the grind and lets get this engine purring again

World Rowing - Erg Sprints - 1k

Far from my best (2:50.8) but good enough to earn the bronze in the World Rowing Indoor Sprints

WorkshopRameur 500m 1:18.5 throwdown - #2XUDefiGuillaume

So spotted a 500m throw-down on Facebook yesterday (google translated version here -

and with little prep I decided it would be good to see where I lay in terms of a 500m - I'm not going to be training for next couple of days so what the hell. I actually had a try this morning before work but just not motivated to complete it - still lunchtime meant more coffee int he system so off I went - 2 min warm up - then a 500m race start and then set to go - target was sub 1:19 although I would love to have broke my all time PB of 1:18.0 - still not bad and something to work on - power wise I never got any lower than 809 watts - (1:15.6) and SPM wise I maxed out at 44 - so ye a lazy day...

CTC for PaddyPower IRC - 9by300m 30sec rest

A deviation was called for today away from the sprint stuff - a rallying call to the paddypower flag meant a shot over the CTC bow - now not having rowed for more than 5 minutes in one stint since the 10k Irish record (40-49H) on the 26th Jan I knew this was going to be pretty nasty - well at the pace I wanted - which was to clip into top spot temporary while the big lads recover from Boston etc so 1:31.2 was the target and those 30 seconds rest are bloody useless lol - mucked up three or four of the starts but happy to say I got through it - left the drag at the heavy end also.

The evidence of lack of time on the erg all too clear on the blister tearing a hole in my palm lol

Friday 4 March 2016

another minute please - 394m 1:16.0 - with video

Hmm that was a bit lackluster - just didn't have the oomph I needed in myself today - really need to get a fire going inside to get these 1 minutes done - still not a complete disaster and happy I held on and went through the line. Started with a 1:49 split then 1:22 and down as far as 1:11- flicked from 395 to 394 right at the end FFS

Thursday 3 March 2016

died before the line - 1 minute TT

Went for the minute at lunchtime and was seeing 410 predicted finish at halfway but crumbled in the last ten seconds (had 399m then 397m) ended up with a 1:52 final stroke and 380m lol - not finished with it... 973 max watts
